Description
Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction (16 hours) as MP3 download, plus PDF user's guide and reading booklet
Hebrew, a Semitic language, is the official language of Israel. It was once considered a dead language with no native speakers, although it remained in use for liturgical purposes. Hebrew was revived as a spoken language in the mid 19th century and today is spoken by over 5 million in Israel.
The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn a new language. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun. You’ll be speaking and understanding in no time flat! Hebrew Phase 1, Lessons 1-30 includes 15 hours of spoken language practice and one hour of reading instruction in thirty, 30-minute lessons.
- In the first 10 lessons, you’ll cover the basics: saying hello, asking for or giving information, scheduling a meal or a meeting, asking for or giving basic directions, and much more. You’ll be able to handle minimum courtesy requirements, understand much of what you hear, and be understood at a beginning level, but with nearnative pronunciation skills.
- In the next 10 lessons, you’ll build on what you’ve learned. Expand your menu, increase your scheduling abilities from general to specific, start to deal with currency and exchanging money, refine your conversations and add over a hundred new vocabulary items. You’ll understand more of what you hear, and be able to participate with speech that is smoother and more confident.
- In the final 10 lessons of Phase 1, you’ll be speaking and understanding at an intermediate level. In this phase, more directions are given in the target language, which moves your learning to a whole new plane. Lessons include shopping, visiting friends, going to a restaurant, plans for the evening, car trips, and talking about family. You’ll be able to speak comfortably about things that happened in the past and make plans for the future.
Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30 to provide you with an introduction to reading the Hebrew alphabet. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

Comments about Hebrew Phase 1, Units 1-30:
I was very satisfied with Spanish I & II. I can now speak Spanish as well as I want to. Now I'm working on Hebrew I. I work on it while walking to and from the bus. I'm off to a good start. Once I learn to speak it, I hope to learn to read the Hebrew Bible (Masoretic text).

Comments about Hebrew Phase 1, Units 1-30:
I am in unit 10 phase I. I like the repition of the words learned from the previous unit. What I do not like is the rapid speed in which the male speaker in the lesson speaks. I have to backup and listen 4 to 6 times, he keeps speaking so fast I do not understand sometimes I just go on. He could do this in the later courses but not the first. If he would have spoken slowly and distinctly I would have given the course a high rating. You cannot learn a language very well when the person speaking talks like a machine gun, and you cannot discern the words. If the male speaks that fast in the second phase, I may not buy the next phase.

Comments about Hebrew Phase 1, Units 1-30:
My commute is about 30 minutes long, so the lesson length is perfect for me. The flow of conversation from lesson to lesson makes sense and I like that elements from previous lessons are peppered in from time to time. I often re-listen to a lesson on my next commute, but have been able to progress to a new lesson each day without any problem. It's been years since I learned a new language, but this has been effective for me so far.

Comments about Hebrew Phase 1, Units 1-30:
I was going to say the product was very good but I just tried to go through Unit 16 and am not too pleased with it at the moment. 16 has too many new words that come too fast w/o taking a few seconds to do a slow pronunciation to get it in your head.
