Comments about Pimsleur German Unlimited 1-3:
With a big trip to Germany coming up I wanted to learn enough to really immerse intot the culture. Having tried two competing products and not making much progress a friend at work recommend Pimsleur. I started with a couple of audio lessons and took to it immediately. I have struggled all my life to learn a new language but your approach really opened a whole new world to me. If I can learn this easily - anyone can. The focus on listening and conversing is perfect - my friends here me say things in what they think is fluent German and it really helps to build my confidence. I look forward to the lesson each day and even find myself thinking in German at times - truly amazing and pretty darn fun - thanks!

Comments about Pimsleur German Unlimited 1-3:
I started learning German one year ago with the complete Pimsleur course borrowed from the library. I had no German before that. At first I tried to immerse myself in learning the language, with textbooks, Rosetta Stone, Deutsch Warum Nicht, plus Pimsleur. Then, because I didn't have that much time, I cut out all the hands-on and reading stuff and just stuck to DWN and Pimsleur, which I could do while driving, exercising, etc. Here's what's amazing: it got easier as soon as I cut out all the visual stuff! I completed the entire Pimsleur course, I-IV, in about 8 months. Then I went to Germany. On my arrival, jet-lagged and confused, I spoke German to get help with train ticket machines and finding a taxi. I couldn't believe it - I was talking German! Germans understood me, and I could mostly understand them. AND I knew how to ask them politely to speak more slowly. :-) I also felt fluent, if somewhat limited in vocabulary -- the language really was lodged in the subliminal part of my brain and I didn't have to struggle to make sentences. I traveled with English speakers, however, and most Germans speak perfectly good English, so I didn't have the chance I'd hoped for to really expand my speaking skills. But I did have fun speaking German to waiters in restaurants, and I did prove to myself that I CAN learn a new language, even at my age. (I'm over 50.) I find the Pimsleur graduated-recall method to be really effective. I spent years studying French in high school and college, and I've never never as comfortable speaking French with strangers as I was with German. I think I may do the Pimsleur French series as a refresher. I hope someday Pimsleur will add more levels to its German course. I really learned to like German, and can't think of a better and easier way to keep it up.
