      Comments about German Phases 1-4:

I am gaining more confidence as I go through the lessons. I'm only on Lesson 15 of Unit 1 (German) but it's amazing how much I understand and can speak already. I've used other language programs (about four) and I could study and read and practice and, in the end, when I go to the foreign country, my mind goes blank and I sort of 'forget' what I learned. Not with Pimsleur. I just started practicing with my mother-in-law. I can only go so far and understand so much but it's more than I could speak & understand three weeks ago.

I work with a guy who speaks five languages. He learned three of them using Pimsleur. Whenever he plans a trip to a new country, he uses Pimsleur to learn the language before his trip.

I'm planning on going to the 100th lesson (Lsn 10 of Unit 4) and then maybe taking a class or going to Germany for a few weeks. I have confidence that I'm building a solid base for speaking the German language fluently, at some point.

      Service and delivery comments:

I would normally suggest a booklet or other visual aid but I think your system for teaching a language without that stuff, actually works better. Don't add booklets (unless teaching reading or writing).

I read a review where someone kept notes as he was doing Pimsleur lessons and he said it made it more difficult for him to learn the language. He actually thought the 'Pimsleur Way' was the better way to learn. That's always stuck with me.

My only hang-ups are the cost and the effort to download it.

It is very expensive. I've wasted a lot of money on programs that didn't work so I guess it's money well spent, even though it's a lot of money spent. Downloading onto my iPod saved some money but that was still very expensive.

Downloading it onto my iPod was a bit of effort to get it running but it works. There was no question of whether it would download properly but the hoops we had to jump through was a bit of a heavy lift.

      Comments about German Phases 1-4:

I've used the German course to polish up my German before presenting a paper at a conference in April. Using this after having studied with non-native speakers was linguistically enlightening; many questions that I've had for years were finally resolved.

      Comments about German Phases 1-4:

This has worked for me since 1989. Dutch, Chinese, Portugese, Italian and French. It is amazing it works without any effort, pencil, paper, notebook or workbook. I am proof that this method works. I learned all those languages on my way to work. It is true. Finally something that is not a ripoff. Its about talking and understanding it is not about reading and writting. Reading and Writting goes after you learn the language. If you dont believe that, look at a child and see that a child starts school at 5 years old and already speaks a language. And dont give the excuse that a child learns faster than an adult, although children learn fast if an adult puts all distraction aside and listen for 30 minutes while driving to work the language and speech will be adquired in a minute. This truly works. A coment aside, for adults and I mean 50+ it is a great exercise for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. This method is a lot of fun because you can start talking a forein language in as little as 30 minutes. It doesn't matter which language they all have the same method which is LISTEN AND REPEAT yes, that's it nothing else, no grammar, no reading, no writting just SAY IT :) After 24 years of using this method and trying others, I stand firm behind this language method. ~Miriam Mullen~ And, no I don't sell this I just believe in backing up what's Great. :)

          Comments about German Phases 1-4:

I have now used Pimsleur to learn five languages. I became interested in languages in my forties and I've used many language programs. I've found that Pimsleur is the best for learning conversational skills right from the start. By the middle of the second set of units you actually begin to use phrases from the first unit without needing to translate back to your native language. The program emphasizes real communication skills at a comfortable pace so that you can gradually hear the language at a native speakers pace. I've always found understanding a native speaker extremely difficult in a real life situation. Pimsleur really helps with this skill and then prepares you to respond without having to think for half a minute before you can respond. For me, that is the most important ability to have so that I don't feel stupid while beginning to speak the new language. Pimsleur is a fast, efficient and satisfying way to learn a new language. I highly recommend using this program.
