Description

Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction on 16 CDs, plus a reading booklet

German is the official language of Germany and Austria and is one of the official languages of Switzerland, Belgium, Lichtenstein, and Luxembourg. Nearly 100 million people speak German as their first language: about 77 million in Germany, 8 million in Austria, and 4.5 million in Switzerland.

The Pimsleur® Method is scientifically proven to be your fastest route to nearnative fluency. German III, Comprehensive includes another 15 hours of spoken language practice and one additional hour of reading instruction, and is designed to be used after completion of  Levels I & II.

  • The beginning 10 lessons offer you the chance to expand your vocabulary and increase your fluency to an even higher level. You’ll gain experience participating in many informal and some formal discussions on practical, social, and semiprofessional topics. You’ll skillfully form longer, more complex sentences, and most importantly, you’ll find yourself being understood, even by native speakers unused to dealing with foreigners. You’ll be able to join in conversations effortlessly, confident of being understood.
  • In the next 10 lessons your skills will show everincreasing mastery of the language. Speaking with grace and complete naturalness, you’ll enjoy fluid conversations on many new subjects. Delving deeper into cultural norms and situations, you’ll find yourself responding effortlessly, and able to choose from a wide accumulation of vocabulary and structures.
  • In the final 10 lessons, you’re nearing fluency with agile responses, and a naturalsounding, nearnative accent. You’re able to utilize the language in subtle ways, and speak using past, present, and future tenses. Selfconfidence soars as you experience the language and culture; no longer as a foreigner, but with a deepening insight into an expanding new world. Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading German and to provide vocabulary. Before you know it, you’ll be reading German with the ease and flexibility of a native speaker. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

Comments about German Phase 3, Units 1-30:

The Pimsleur German program is great. I listen and speak every day for a half hour or more. I try to do it first thing everyday. I like the way it focuses me on the structure of German sentences. I also get a lot of "little" words, like "really," and "soon" and others that make speaking conversational. I have recommended the program to others. I do wish the speakers would help me a bit more with the difficult to distinguish sounds, in particular m and n. I also wish I had a booklet of all those little words. I write them down as they are introduced so that I can assemble sentences faster when I give my German versionl

Comments about German Phase 3, Units 1-30:

Wow! I don't know what the secret sauce is but I am learning German and I am loving it! I am finding myself knowing the words and recalling them with ease. I listen in a quiet area and do the lesson. I usually replay while I am out on a walk. Even though the instructions state not to write words down, I sometimes need to. If I am having a particular problem with the recall of a word, I write it down. Look up the proper german spelling and a phoenetic pronunciation.
I would recommend the Pimsleur courses to anyone wanting to learn with a system that is not cumbersome at all. I wish I would have known about this earlier, like when I was in school. Learning is fun and without effort. Some of the lessons are tough and require a second or third listen but the proficiency seems to come out of nowhere and before long, I was speaking in full sentences. I am half way through this Phase and am looking foward to more. My goal isn't to fly through each phase in 30 days but to take the time to move through each lesson with confidence.
I am very glad I went with an audio version as it is portable and really fits my lifestyle and I feel I learn best by audio (not being overwhelmed by visuals).

      Service and delivery comments:

I would like the volume to be more adjustible. I sometimes have problems hearing the speaker even at the highest volume on my mp3 player or computer.

More reading. Perhaps in paragraph form instead of phrase or word from.

Comments about German Phase 3, Units 1-30:

My husband and I have been through German Phases 1 and 2 and are now halfway through Phase 3. It has been very useful and fun for us to work on it together. We realize that the program seeks to teach grammar intuitively, and it does have a great methodology, but we also find that we can understand it better if we supplement the method. We are finding that we often try to supplement the lessons. For example, we stop the audio at times to try and write the words down or look them up. We also stop to look up grammar points. Have you ever considered offering your own supplement which would be focused on the written language and the grammar?
