I am having very good sucess with the program so far. I have completed Level 1 and a third of Level 2. The introduction of informal conversation with Du is difficult at first. I am trying not to be critical of that at this point because the program has really made it "easy" for me to pick up German and Pimsleur seems to be dead on with his research. I'd rather personal rather focus on the formal version and then add less formal conversation later. I am able to retain what I have learned. I listen to a new lesson everyday and listen again while I am out walking. I like the portability and that I can focus just on the words and pronunciation. One thing I don't like in the MP3 version is the sound isn't very good. I have it all the way up and it is still hard to hear on the computer. I am impressed with the product. Pimsleur's research has really paid off.
Sometimes I have to slow things down a bit and spend two days on a lesson. Occassionally there is a lesson that introduces a ton of new material and it seems very overwhelming at first. After a second listen and sometimes a third it is much easier to move on with confidence. I've grown accustom to the speakers voice. Toward the end of the first unit, one of the guys dropped out and I found myself missing him because I was so use to his voice. This other guy is more soft spoken. I am looking forward to finishing all the German units and becoming proficient in German. so far this program has given me the confidence to have such a lofty goal. Thanks.

From my local library, I got this on CDs. The sound quality is quite poor compared to German Complete Level I. It sounds like a bad transfer from old audiocassettes, with moderate tape hiss and low signal to noise ratio. The CDs say ©1995-1998.

Is that the version being sold now? If not, why not tell us what you sell now?

Comments about German Phase 2, Units 1-30:

I am able to speak German, probably enough to be said. I also teach and help others learn. I have German I,II, III, and IV and I can speak with many people. I can also read well enough to read some challenging literature. I read in Deutsche Zeitung and books. The lessons are home schooling for me and I use them in my car, at home, walking, riding a bicycle, running, and I do not have to have a computer with me to do it. It's like having a friend on my run and, I am 70 years of age so let's forget the story about being too old to learn a new language. I speak Spanish, French, Italian, German, Russian and Polish and I have just started Japanese again so age is not prohibitive of learning a new language or reviewing one.

    Service and delivery comments:

There are times a word is difficult to hear, such as "Wie wares mit ein glaswein" The "wares" was very difficult for me to pick up and I wished for a resource, a live chat I could go to and get my resolution. This has always been a frustration with Pimsleur. When I was learning Russian and I was stuck on "po ob yedet" for to have lunch. I really needed help them and had to take a Russian to dinner to get help.

Comments about German Phase 2, Units 1-30:

I have an hour + commute to work every workday. Perfect for continued imersion in the Pimsleur audio work units.

The way the lessons are constructed is entertaining as well as educational and the turns and twists keep my interest level high. The ocassional and sometimes inrtiquite humor is perfect.

The work units are faster and faster in the mid level II course. The way I am needing to use the pause button more and more often may be cheating the prosses some, but I am older and often my brain figures thje proper responses with just a few more seconds between the queries.

As soom as I am ready I will purchase Pimsleur III. THis is one of the most fun ways to learn a new language, and I am learning just for fun, and to stay sharp.

      Thanks,

Comments about German Phase 2, Units 1-30:

Although expensive, this program really gives me confidence in speaking the language which is something I never got from my 8+ years learning Spanish in high school & college. I listen to it in the car and have been able to hold conversations with my Austrian friends.
