German is the official language of Germany and Austria and is one of the official languages of Switzerland, Belgium, Lichtenstein, and Luxembourg. Nearly 100 million people speak German as their first language: about 77 million in Germany, 8 million in Austria, and 4.5 million in Switzerland.
Comprehensive German II includes 30 additional lessons (16 hrs.), plus Readings, which build upon the language skills acquired in Level I. Increased spoken and reading language ability. Level II will double your vocabulary and grammatical structures while increasing your spoken proficiency exponentially. Upon completion of a Level II, you will be able to:
- engage in fuller conversations involving yourself, your family, daily activities, interests and personal preferences,
- combine known elements into increasingly longer sentences and strings of sentences,
- create with language and function in informal situations,
- deal with concrete topics in the past, present, and future,
- meet social demands and limited job requirements,
- begin reading for meaning.
Note: In order for the Pimsleur Method to work correctly, you must first complete the Level I language program before proceeding to the Level II language program.

Comments about German Phase 2, Units 1-30:
It has improved my reading ability and my ability to understand spoken German in films in just a few weeks. The only improvement I would suggest might be more reading exercises but there are so many other resources available for German reading and grammar that it's not a real problem and Pimsleur is the best program for developing a comprehension of spoken German that I've encountered.

Comments about German Phase 2, Units 1-30:
I am having very good sucess with the program so far. I have completed Level 1 and a third of Level 2. The introduction of informal conversation with Du is difficult at first. I am trying not to be critical of that at this point because the program has really made it "easy" for me to pick up German and Pimsleur seems to be dead on with his research. I'd rather personal rather focus on the formal version and then add less formal conversation later. I am able to retain what I have learned. I listen to a new lesson everyday and listen again while I am out walking. I like the portability and that I can focus just on the words and pronunciation. One thing I don't like in the MP3 version is the sound isn't very good. I have it all the way up and it is still hard to hear on the computer. I am impressed with the product. Pimsleur's research has really paid off.
Sometimes I have to slow things down a bit and spend two days on a lesson. Occassionally there is a lesson that introduces a ton of new material and it seems very overwhelming at first. After a second listen and sometimes a third it is much easier to move on with confidence. I've grown accustom to the speakers voice. Toward the end of the first unit, one of the guys dropped out and I found myself missing him because I was so use to his voice. This other guy is more soft spoken. I am looking forward to finishing all the German units and becoming proficient in German. so far this program has given me the confidence to have such a lofty goal. Thanks.

Comments about German Phase 2, Units 1-30:
I have lived in Germany on and off and have been trying to improve my language skills. While I had a good foundation in the language and could understand a good bit, my skills are lacking when it comes to speaking myself. I started at the 2nd level with Pimsleur and it is just what I needed to gain more confidence in speaking and using the language myself. While I still have my work cut out for me to improve, I am gaining more confidence and love the style of the courses in that it forces me to respond and not only listen/study. I would recommend the course if you are hoping to improve in this area.
