From the very first CD, French 1, Level 1, I have been hooked. The very first time I utilized Pimsleur, I think I had the biggest smile on my face. I knew that I wouldn't find a better method to learn French apart from actually going to France or speaking with a native.
Why is Pimsleur the best? Pimsleur is the best because you participate in the language actively. There are many other methods out there, but nothing gets you more involved in a foreign language than Pimsleur does.
I recommend Pimsleur before any other method as the most effective way to become conversational in French or any other language.

I have become totally addicted to the Pimsleur language programs. I am working hard at becoming multi-lingual. I am using the Quick & Simple programs to build a basic foundation of multiple languages. Meanwhile, I am working even harder at becoming totally fluent in Russian (this is my cultural background).
After having looked and shopped around for various language learning programs, I have to say that Pimsleur is THE ABSOLUTE BEST out there in the marketplace. I have never found any other program out there that offers so much for so little. Many of the basic programs are reasonably priced. I feel like I am getting a lot of value for my dollar.
I have personally found the French language to be a challenge. If you feel the same way, just keep doing your 30 minutes a day and it will start to work. Practicing aloud to yourself throughout the day the new words you are learning helps the language to sink in faster.
The Quick & Simple programs will teach you enough language to have the survival basics. The lessons are NOT random phrases. They utilize realistic conversations and deal with issues that are relevant. I would give yourself about 2 weeks to fully integrate these lessons.

I am using the Pimsleur course to refresh my French - by far - Pimsleur is -THE BEST- language program including college courses, but I would not get rid of the college classes.
These CDs are excellent when there are no college courses available.
I would deffinately recommend this course.
