I am a former audio-lingual German teacher and have tried to learn French twice before. However, my accent was always dreadful. I also speak minimal Spanish and Japanese.
The Pimsler method is excellent for first teaching the correct accent (I think French is one of the most difficult) and then slowly adding reading and grammer components. I especially like how each lesson slowly and painlessly introduces a few new concepts. The added reading to reinforce proper pronunciation is also very good. I'm only on the unit 9 of the first section, but have now have some hope that I will be able to speak intelligible French on a trip to Provence in three months. So far I haven't found anything that I don't think is so great. I would absolutely recommend this approach for anyone who is planning foreign travel.

I did the lessons and spent some time every day with the flashcards, speaking and review questions. This is a really great program to use, and will be especially benefit if you put in the time to also work. This has helped me to actually be able to "naturally" use French. Thank you Pimsleur!

The best product by far!!! I have tried other products, but none have delivered the same progression speed as this course. Be ready to work hard and be challenged, but soon, the rewards come. The way that this program carries you through the learning process, you will be amazed ... I was quickly thinking in French ... awesome!!! My wife is French, but it is hard to learn from a member of the family, so I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
