I use the mp3 lessons in my car and found that I was quickly picking up on basic French. I don't have anything else to compare it to, other than the Spanish classes I took in high school, but it seems like a great way to quickly become conversant.

I've used Pimsleur for other languages as well. Well-structured lessons lead quickly to mastery and comfort with the language. The convenience of incremental downloads is really nice.
P.S. "Only 1/2 hour per day" actually means working pretty hard. What great things have you achieved lately WITHOUT hard work? Right then. Go for it.
