I have been wanting to learn Farsi for a very long time. For as long as I could remember, I had been enchanted by persian music, literature, and poetry. I stumbled upon Pimsleur and decided to give it a shot over Rosetta Stone. Not only was it cheaper, but it had better reviews. I went with Farsi Persian rather than Dari Persian (even though I am Afghan) because I find the Iranian diction to be more crisper and enjoyable. The first lesson showed me what a wonderful decision I made by buying Pimsleur. I am only on lesson 12 of 30 and I already have impressed my family and friends with the wealth of knowledge I have acquired.
I am begging you, Pimsleur, to continue making more and more CD's. I am on my way to becoming a fluent speaker with your help and I hope other people reading this review give you a chance. Farsi is a beautiful language and it is useful because it is very similar to Afghan Dari. I recommend buying Persian Farsi also because you can find many more supplemental items on the internet to further your education in this language, while finding stuff for Dari is more challenging.
Thank you for giving me the first lesson but PLEASE MAKE MORE CDS!!!!!!!!! You are incredible and I really hope that more people discover you. 'Lotfan' and 'Merci'!

Phase 1 is great, however with there being no Phase 2 or 3, it is insufficient in reaching even basic goals in learning farsi. I would not recommend beginning the Pimsleur program for farsi until they add Phase 2 and 3. Pimsleur is great and the system WORKS, but there needs to be more than 30 lessons for the system to be worth it.

Comments about Farsi Persian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I had a great time with these lessons and I finally am feeling comfortable talking with my dad in Farsi. I'm learning more just by speaking with a native, but this course got me there! If only I had more!

Comments about Farsi Persian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

To sum it up, here are the pros and cons the program has:

        Pros:

        - As a native English speaker, pronouncing Farsi can be a challenge. This program was excellent in that words are introduced by the program speaker, you repeat them, and the cycle repeats. This really helps develop your ability to pronounce new words.
        - The vocabulary and sayings you learn are very practical and basic. It's a great introductory short course, but don't expect to move mountains with it.
        - The program is structured in such a way that you have to anticipate how to say things you've learned. If you actually say what is asked (if you know it), then listen to the answer (as opposed to "cheating" by waiting for the answer), retention of the words and phrases comes very naturally.

        Cons:

        - For people with some knowledge of the language, this course is not recommended. That is, there is little discussion of grammar and limited vocabulary.

        Bottom line:

If you're a complete beginner to Farsi, this is a great place to start learning some vocabulary, phrases, and perhaps most importantly of all, the pronunciation of words in Farsi. There are great free resources out there for learning new words and grammar, but they lack a solid phonetical basis. This course excels in providing a base to learn new words and pronounce them correctly so that Farsi speakers can actually understand you.

Comments about Farsi Persian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

The method is very instructing and enriching for beginner-medium levels who don't have the time to invest in learning the language at home.

While I drive I have lots of spare time, now it's invested in something useful and the time passes by fast.

The big downside is that after you finish Phase I you are still beginner. Pimsleur don't offer any more phases and hence if I knew better I would have probably not purchased it.

Since finishing at beginner level will probably end at forgetting most of the stuff, and if you have the time to invest in learning the language at home I guess you probably beyond the level this product will be useful, I think the product will be useful only if it's your first shot at the language.

Comments about Farsi Persian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

The way I learned this course was to listen to 1-3 lessons everyday and get very frustrated then it became difficult. The next morning I would then be able to remember the most of it and I would when listen to a new lesson along with 2 or all 3 previous lessons. I like how you have to repeat the words in short syllables even though you just want to get it over with, because the slow pace really makes you remember what you are taught. I cannot think of anything about the course that I didn't like: I do however miss a course no. 2 as well as some writing exercises.
