Description
Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction (16 hours) as MP3 download, plus PDF user's guide and reading booklet
Persian is the official language of Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Persian has three major dialects: Farsi (spoken in Iran), Dari (spoken in Afghanistan), and Tajik (spoken in Tajikistan). Pimsleur's Farsi teaches Persian as spoken in Iran.
The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn a new language. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun. You’ll be speaking and understanding in no time flat! Farsi Phase 1, Lessons 1-30 includes 15 hours of spoken language practice and one hour of reading instruction in thirty, 30-minute lessons.
- In the first 10 lessons, you’ll cover the basics: saying hello, asking for or giving information, scheduling a meal or a meeting, asking for or giving basic directions, and much more. You’ll be able to handle minimum courtesy requirements, understand much of what you hear, and be understood at a beginning level, but with nearnative pronunciation skills.
- In the next 10 lessons, you’ll build on what you’ve learned. Expand your menu, increase your scheduling abilities from general to specific, start to deal with currency and exchanging money, refine your conversations and add over a hundred new vocabulary items. You’ll understand more of what you hear, and be able to participate with speech that is smoother and more confident.
- In the final 10 lessons of Phase 1, you’ll be speaking and understanding at an intermediate level. In this phase, more directions are given in the target language, which moves your learning to a whole new plane. Lessons include shopping, visiting friends, going to a restaurant, plans for the evening, car trips, and talking about family. You’ll be able to speak comfortably about things that happened in the past and make plans for the future.
Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30 to provide you with an introduction to reading the Farsi alphabet. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

I have been wanting to learn Farsi for a very long time. For as long as I could remember, I had been enchanted by persian music, literature, and poetry. I stumbled upon Pimsleur and decided to give it a shot over Rosetta Stone. Not only was it cheaper, but it had better reviews. I went with Farsi Persian rather than Dari Persian (even though I am Afghan) because I find the Iranian diction to be more crisper and enjoyable. The first lesson showed me what a wonderful decision I made by buying Pimsleur. I am only on lesson 12 of 30 and I already have impressed my family and friends with the wealth of knowledge I have acquired.
I am begging you, Pimsleur, to continue making more and more CD's. I am on my way to becoming a fluent speaker with your help and I hope other people reading this review give you a chance. Farsi is a beautiful language and it is useful because it is very similar to Afghan Dari. I recommend buying Persian Farsi also because you can find many more supplemental items on the internet to further your education in this language, while finding stuff for Dari is more challenging.
Thank you for giving me the first lesson but PLEASE MAKE MORE CDS!!!!!!!!! You are incredible and I really hope that more people discover you. 'Lotfan' and 'Merci'!

Farsi Phases 2 and 3 are overdue

I would rate Pimsleur's Farsi better if there were more lessons to continue on. The basic method works. My Iranian friends say the pronunciation in Pimsleur is accurate. Frustrating, because it's very good but ends after only 30 lessons.

Comments about Farsi Persian, Comprehensive:
So, I went from 100 words of Farsi to understanding 30% of any conversation in a one month period. I simply worked the audio lessons on the way to work and back. It took a month to complete the first 30 units. Fantastic product and I only wish that there was more of it. It definitely accelerated my understanding and expression to the point of actually communicating with my mother in law in a meaningful way. My wife is happy with this and therefore it's all good.

Comments about Farsi Persian, Comprehensive:
As a Kuwaiti of Persian descent, I wanted to speak the native language of my grandparents. For some reason, my family decided not to pass on the language to be part of the non-Persian society I live in and belong to now.
Once I found out about the Pimsleur course, I got excited and grabbed a copy as soon as possible
I have to say that I've impressed Iranians and Afghans alike, and some thought I speak Persian fluently, therefore I have to tell them I only speak a basic level of the language
Therefore, I'd like to see a "Level II" course to further my knowledge and improve my Persian, that'd be great! Not having a Level II course is probably my only complaint to be honest

I have been going through the program on and off over the past month or so and have found that my ability to speak Farsi has increased dramatically. The only issue that I have is that there is not enough vocab taught. If there was a phase two I would buy it.
