Description
Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction (16 hours) as MP3 download, plus PDF user's guide and reading booklet
Eastern Arabic is the dialect spoken in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine. Eastern Arabic is also very well understood in the eastern and southeastern parts of the Arab world -- Arabia, the Gulf Region, and Iraq. Pimsleur's Eastern Arabic is based on the dialect of Damascus, Syria.
You’ll be speaking and understanding in no time flat! Eastern Arabic Phase 1, Lessons 1-30 includes 15 hours of spoken language practice and one hour of reading instruction in thirty, 30-minute lessons.
- In the first 10 lessons, you’ll cover the basics: saying hello, asking for or giving information, scheduling a meal or a meeting, asking for or giving basic directions, and much more. You’ll be able to handle minimum courtesy requirements, understand much of what you hear, and be understood at a beginning level, but with nearnative pronunciation skills.
- In the next 10 lessons, you’ll build on what you’ve learned. Expand your menu, increase your scheduling abilities from general to specific, start to deal with currency and exchanging money, refine your conversations and add over a hundred new vocabulary items. You’ll understand more of what you hear, and be able to participate with speech that is smoother and more confident.
- In the final 10 lessons of Phase 1, you’ll be speaking and understanding at an intermediate level. In this phase, more directions are given in the target language, which moves your learning to a whole new plane. Lessons include shopping, visiting friends, going to a restaurant, plans for the evening, car trips, and talking about family. You’ll be able to speak comfortably about things that happened in the past and make plans for the future.
Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30 to provide you with an introduction to reading the Arabic alphabet. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.
The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn a new language. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun.

Comments about Arabic (East) Phase 1, Units 1-30:
This product works, plain and simple. With a desire to learn Arabic, I purchased Level 1 a few months ago. I took each lesson several times and really worked on perfecting my accent and memorizing the words (so that it would become second nature). The Arabic speakers break down the words and pronunciations for you at a digestible pace, and each lesson you find yourself building upon your new-found knowledge. My girlfriend and her family speak Arabic, and I have been told by them that my pronunciations are very good. I highly recommend the product to anyone wanting to learn a new language. I have already purchased Level 2.
Service and delivery comments:
For the most part, the speakers do a good job in breaking down the words and pronunciations for you. However, the speakers will not break down all words and you may find yourself saying, "what did you just say?" You really have to pay attention to the slightest sounds - Arabic has many sounds that are not familiar to a Westerner, and, because I'm not seeing the written word in front of me, it would be helpful if the speakers were to say, for example, "notice the 'ib' sound before xyz word."

Comments about Arabic (East) Phase 1, Units 1-30:
I bought a year ago the first 30 lessons of Eastern Arabic and I started learning seriously the language. Though I switched to Fus'ha and to more traditional methods I regularly go back to Pimsleur and I recently bought Modern Standard Arabic. Pimsleur helped me a lot to find a good pronunciation. I'm quite proud of the results. Thank you.

Comments about Arabic (Eastern) I, Comprehensive:
I wish Pimsleur would create Eastern Arabic IV. I feel that there is so much more that I can learn with the CDs. I followed Pimsleur's suggestion on how to use the CDs and learned quickly and accurately. However, I am only able to have a very basic conversation with an Eastern Arabic native speaker. Please create Eastern Arabic IV!
