Description

Includes 10 lessons and reading instruction on 5 CDs, plus a reading booklet

Danish is derived from Old Norse. Because of the large number of similarities between Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish, knowledge of any one of these languages makes it possible to understand the others. This is true for both spoken and written forms.

This Compact course provides an introduction to the Danish language with ten thirty-minute lessons of spoken language practice and Reading Lessons. With this product you start from zero, learning first survival phrases and vocabulary, then progressing to speaking and understanding at a functional level. Every lesson contains an introductory conversation, and isolated vocabulary and structures, as well as full practice for all vocabulary introduced. Emphasis on pronunciation and comprehension. At the completion of this course, you’ll have a basic vocabulary and speak with a near-native accent. This course provides you with a solid foundation upon which to expand your language skills. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn a new language. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun. You’ll be speaking and understanding in no time flat!

This is an excellent introduction to the Danish language. I use these lessons in the car on the way to work in the morning (how many times can you listen to the same old songs anyway?) and it WORKS! The instructors are giving you new words at just the right speed, and asking you to recall things just before you forget thiem so that it is seared into your memory. After awhile you really are thinking in Danish! This is the second language I have studied using Pimsleur courses, you cant go wrong. You will learn more from theese 10 lessons than you will reading 10 entire books on Danish language! I have some cousins in Denmark that I speak to every now and again on the phone, and they were amazed at how good my pronounciation was. The only negative thing I can say is that I wish there were more lessons. My Danish is pretty limited yet because there are only theese 10 lessons availible. They need to hurry up and make a full 30 lesson Danish course, at least! I can tell you that by the time you finish an entire 30 lesson course (like I did with German 1) you will have a pretty good grasp on the fundamentals of the language and will be able to expand on your own with the help of a dictionary.

    Comments about Danish, Compact:

I bought the CD set to use in my car on the way to work. They have been great for that. The lessons are progressive and build on each other. These are much better than some Spanish CDs I tried from another company. Clear sound quality and not rushed. I hope they come out with Danish 2 soon.

Comments about Danish Phase 1, Units 1-10:

I downloaded Pimsleur Danish lessons without knowing what to expect. I listened to the audio courses everyday and I was surprised by how much fun I was having. Each lesson starts with a conversation. You're then taught the vocabulary words slowly and you repeat them often. By the end of the 30 minutes lesson, you can understand the conversation held in the beginning. You won't have a large vocabulary at the end of the 10 lessons, but what you know you will know very well. It's not just mindless repetition either. At times you will be asked to say things you haven't heard before, but by using previously taught sentence structures you can figure out how to say them. There are a few words you will learn that do not show up on the reading lessons, so you will know what they mean and how to say them, but not how to spell them. The hardest part about Danish, though, is the pronunciation. The Pimsleur method is great for developing a near native accent. My biggest issue is that there are only 10 lessons and I'm kind of addicted. I can't seem to find any other resources that are as satisfying. PLEASE ADD MORE LESSONS!!!

    Service and delivery comments:

Make sure all vocabulary taught is represented in the reading lessons.

    Comments about Danish, Compact:

This is an excellent ways to actually learn how to speak or even write the language. Rather than lists of words to memorize and never feeling like you can converse, this program helps you to use the language.

I use this in the car when i'm driving to places as it makes excellent use of my time. The big down side is that there is not enough lessons and it only helps with the mere basics. It helps get you started but if you already know how to speak the basics you are better grabbing a grammar book and painfully practice constructing sentences.

Generally the speed and pauses they give you are perfect, but I find myself on occasion stumbling and speaking while the correct response is spoken. Going through the lesson a couple of times helps.

    Comments about Danish, Compact:

I am Danish and bought this for my husband so he can learn some Danish. He listens to it on his way to work. He is already getting a better grasp of pronunciation and the lessons can explain things better to him than I can. When we are together we use the things he has learned and add phrases and words.
I am sad to see that there are no more phases of Danish available since this really seems to work for my husband. I guess we will just work on it on our own now when he has some of the basics down.
