Description
Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction on 16 CDs, plus a reading booklet
Portuguese is the mother tongue of about 170 million people, mainly in Portugal and the Portuguese islands in the Atlantic, Brazil, and Portugal's former overseas provinces in Africa and Asia. Pimsleur's Brazilian Portuguese teaches the Sao Paulo dialect of Brazilian Portuguese.
Comprehensive Portuguese (Braz.) III includes 30 additional lessons (16 hrs.), plus Readings, which build upon the language skills acquired in Levels I and II. Increased spoken and reading language ability. Level III will increase your vocabulary and grammatical structures and triple your spoken proficiency. Upon completion of a level III, you will be able to:
- participate in most informal and some formal discussions on practical, social, and some semi-professional topics,
- form longer sentences while maintaining the target language syntax,
- be understood even by native speakers unused to dealing with foreigners,
- handle increasingly difficult grammatical structures,
- enjoy fluent conversations with a variety of strangers,
- have a near-native accent, and the subtleties of the language will be apparent in your speech,
- read at the same level at which you speak.
Note: In order for the Pimsleur Method to work correctly, you must first complete the Level I + II language programs before proceeding to the Level III language program.

Comments about Portuguese (Brazilian) III, Comprehensive:
I really like the Pimsleur system. I have finished Pimsleur I and II and have ordered III. I love it because it is a wonderful complement to book/class learning. The voices and pronunciations of the native teachers is invaluable. It is very helpful with expressions and with repeating the word(s) frequently enough so that you do learn. I spend my time efficiently in the car listening (and learning) Portuguese. My husband listens to them in the car and on his laptop. The 30 minute lessons are perfect. If you spend a fair bit of time driving in the car...such as to and from work....it is a really great way to spend 30 minutes/60 minutes a day learning a new language.
In my opinion, the Pimsleur system cannot be the only system used. I say this because if I had not had been taking classes and/or doing book/computer work (Rosetta Stone, Portuguese workbooks) I would not have benefited as much as I have with the Pimsleur system. Pimsleur is great because you "hear" the language and you can repeat the language, but you are not seeing how the word is spelled or how the verb is conjugated. I think a learner would be very confused at times if they only used the Pimsleur system. I highly recommend the Pimsleur system; however, it should be used as a complement to workbooks/computer work/class.
If you are serious about learning a new language, then don't hesitate to use many ways of learning: hearing it, seeing it, writing it and speaking it. Pimsleur is great for the hearing it and speaking it..

Comments about Port (Braz) Phase 3, Units 1-30:
The method used to teach is the best! The repetitions and reminders lesson after lesson are hugely useful. But, it uses half the time teaching formal speech which is never used and is a total waste of time. I've been in Brazil for a total of 2 months and never heard that being used.

Comments about Port (Braz) Phase 3, Units 1-30:
YZou cannot rate Pimsleur without comparing to other language programs, and other programs seems like random noise and do not have a certain coherence Pimsleur has. Pimsleur is not enuf--you need to talk to peep, and listen, for listening is the hardest part of learning alanguage. The only drawback to an all audio program is that computer programs can create powerful visual reinforcement which may improve retention. They are not mutually exclusive!
