Description
Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction (16 hours) as MP3 download, plus PDF user's guide and reading booklet
Portuguese is the mother tongue of about 170 million people, mainly in Portugal and the Portuguese islands in the Atlantic, Brazil, and Portugal's former overseas provinces in Africa and Asia. Pimsleur's Brazilian Portuguese teaches the São Paulo dialect of Brazilian Portuguese.
Can learning another language be as easy as speaking your own? Yes - with Pimsleur it’s that easy. Learn on your own time, at your own pace, and wherever you choose. Brazilian Portuguese Phase 2 includes 15 hours of spoken language practice and one additional hour of reading instruction, and is designed to be used after completing Phase 1.- In the first 10 lessons of Phase 2, you begin to use the past tense. Structures become more complex and informal speech is introduced. Conversations become fuller, and learners are able to discuss business and social activities, manage shopping situations, and express their interests. As you progress, vocabulary is expanded and fluency increases.
- The next 10 lessons of Phase 2 allow you to further combine and build upon known elements, and produce longer and more complex sentences. You learn to bargain with shopkeepers, deal with business situation, get and give medical information, and discuss the weather.
- In the final 10 lessons of Phase 2, you’ve doubled your vocabulary and have several hundred structures to draw upon. You’ll gain experience asking for assistance, finding a location that is some distance away, and using relative structures – faster, slower, etc. Sports and leisure activities are explored, as well as shopping, changing money, and future travel plans. By the end of Phase 2, you’re speaking at a mid-intermediate level with near-native pronunciation, and you are comfortable meeting most social demands and limited job requirements.
Reading Lessons are included at the end of this unit. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading Portuguese and to provide you with some insight into Portuguese culture with proverbs, common expressions, and a broad look at some of the things you’ll see when visiting a Brazilian Portuguese-speaking country. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

Comments about Port (Braz) Phase 2, Units 1-30:
I had a trip to Brazil in a month and needed to learn some of the language. I already know Spanish, but not well. I was able to get through the 30 lessons of phase 1 quickly and then I finished 20 of the 30 lessons of phase 2. I found I could do most of the simple conversations well while in Brazil.
HInt: Brazilians don't speak Spanish. English is the most comon second langauge in Brazil.
My only suggestion is to some how figure out a way to add some writen Portuguese to the lessons, using a Pimsluer technique of delayed reinforcement. There are written lessons but they are just sentences to look over while you listen to a native speaker.
I have also used a program called "language101.com" for Russian and other languages. The author of this program is very complentary to Pimsluer, his competetor. Language101.com gives you written cues and then you have to respond verbally (as opposed to getting verbal cues and responding verbally as Pimsluer does it). I found it not nearly as good as Pimsluer because you need to be cnditioned to respond to verbal cues to converse in a language. Also Pimsluer by far had a larger set of vocabulary and the way the lessons build on the previous lesson is great. Still the designers at Pimsluer could learn someting form the way "language101.com" is set up. (and vice veras of course). For example, I learned the Russian alphabet, and to read Russian whic Pimsluer does not teach.
Al in all there is absolutely no substitute for Pimsluer!

Comments about Port (Braz) Phase 2, Units 1-30:
Much better than Rosetta Stone, i have that as well. Rosetta stone had absolutely no tech service helping the installation to my mac and the product is not nearly as good as Pimsleur. Pimsleur is much more closer to the real conversation language. The only thing i wish is a little more time to reply, have to use the stop button too often...

Comments about Port (Braz) Phase 2, Units 1-30:
I bought Phase 2 Portuguese after finishing the first version in preparation for a two week trip to Brazil... OMG, I was amazed how quickly I was able to respond and understand what everyone was saying!!! From the get-go, what I learned in Phase I and II, I needed to use from the second we got off the plane-to hailing a taxi-to checking into the hotel. I'm sold on Pimsleur and I recommend it 100%.
